Round two for the day took us to the balmy Bradford beach...always beautiful in December...if you squint...which you probably do thanks to the cutting wind...but aside from that and the crashing waves it's gorgeous... not as gorgeous as Sarah & Matt however, who laughed their way through the entire shoot, blew a few kisses, only snotted on each other a couple of times and didnt whine as I dragged them across the beachfront before retiring up to Lake Park where lions were not mounted and a brigadier general's horse was not used to crack open a couple of bottles...because nothing says class like drinking beer in the park on a Sunday morning...Sarah & Matt. Some people's dream wedding location is somewhere tropical.. Cancun? Somewhere majestic.... Colorado's Rocky peaks?.. For Jess, it was the Lakefront Brewery. Sadly they no longer host weddings, so as a small consolation, she arm-barred them into letting us do Jess & Nate's engagement session there, and talked our way downstairs because nothing says romance like those kettles and vats... shining in the Sunday morning sun like beacons of love and happiness... after the session I do believe they were off to another brewery.. they may still be there as I type this.. who knows.. seems there's only one thing they love more than beer and that's each other.. Opening day of hunting season, and young buck Brett's days of goin' stag are officially over after finally getting a license and bagging the gorgeous doe-eyed Natalie and a herd of 'deerest' friends and family were on hand to fawn over the both of them yesterday up in foggy Poynette... OK, I"m done with the hunting puns as impressive as they were... but not as impressive as Natalie & Brett's big day yesterday where the barn was jammed full for their wedding.. so if you were wondering why the crappy weather let up for a day, well, this was obviously it and it was richly deserved.. hopefully their honeymoon up north for hunting season is just as fantastic... Off to Richfield for the second session of the afternoon for Chicagoans Kim & Charlie... though don't hold it against them, neither are from there, just fighting the good fight from within... plenty of manhandling and hugging going on for this one to prevent the hypothermia setting in during a hike through the foreboding snow dusted woods and the grass fields which the wind unhappily joined us for.. nevertheless they were uncomplaining as I trawled them through the undergrowth and non-existent snowmobile tracks I promised we'd stay on. worth it. enjoy these guys now however, as you won't be seeing them for a couple of years... they take their planning seriously... What a beautiful late autumn day it turned out not to be... though the light snow turned out to be a fantastic aesthetic substitute for the lovely Kristin & Jim and their modelling debut in Delafield.. if you can get past the gorgeous Kristin, you'll probably notice that smouldering GQ look JIm's got going on though... no experience folks (aside from some vicarious fraternal transfer) they're just that good (though I"m sure the cat litter cue helped).. On their first weekend off in recent memory Janelle & Chris chose to spend the afternoon launching their modelling careers, and if teaching becomes too pedestrian for them, I'd say they have more than a shot... their first date (orchestrated somewhat sneakily by a mutual friend of ours) happened at one of the first weddings I shot which was a cute coincidence to be on the hook for this wedding... starting off in the Third Ward with mercifully mild weather, it was then on to the lake front to make out in front of a bunch of kids in the MAM doing arts & crafts.. very appropriate for a couple of educators... see kids, even when covered in glue, construction paper and glitter you can still find love in front of your innocent eyes... Magically avoiding horrible weather, a brisk late autumn day proved to be just right for Nebraska natives Steph & Mike on their triumphant return to Milwaukee and the Marcus, the spot they became engaged.. not before a trip to Menomonee Falls for formalities of course and a bus trip that transformed them from one of the most reserved wedding parties into the rowdy raunchy bunch that crushed what was probably the biggest party in M-town last night... as Mike so wisely remarked in relation to the evening's big surprise, "It's not a party til the wieners come out"... (he was, of course, talking about the Brewer's own famous racing sausages storming the dancefloor..probably only outdone on the dancefloor by Steph who is probably still dancing as I write this... what a dynamo)... Rounding off the weekend with the lovely Rosie and Scott out in Pewaukee with another mercifully mild day's weather... perfect for plenty of climbing, sitting (and at times for me at least comfortable laying) and wading through nature.. after a little poop on the hand, a talk about how fostering kittens help you weed out the evil ones, a quick wardrobe change it was off up the hill to make sure got the industrial estate in a few shots, then down onto the frontage road with just enough cars passing by to ensure Rosie was completely freezing before wrapping up... A long-awaited trip out to Eagle for the gorgeous Lauren & Steve's engagement session...a new spot for me proved to be the perfect place for these guys (along with bodyguard Ben who sneaks in to one of the shots)...after crashing a couple of other photographers and climbing around the place, it was across the road for their beloved pooch's cameo and off into the autumn-sun drenched fields for some of my favourites of the season...and no, it wasn't done there... into the trucks to try and keep up with Lauren's driving to get to her one and only request of this whole wedding-photography deal.. some campfire shots...so after some sublime shoreline sunset pictures, Steve pulled out the gasoline and a solid ten minutes later we had ourselves a towering, raging inferno to roast stale marshmallows on.. perfect.
